Archaeological Museum Badami is situated below the Badami fort. The Archeological Museum Badami is on the northern shores of Agasthya Lake. The museum is located at a distance of around 1 km from the Badami bus stand. Route to the museum and caves is very congested. Avoid your car and you can go by walk from the bus stand. You can hire an auto-rickshaw to reach this place. The museum has beautiful and unique stone sculptures. Once you reach the museum, you can fill your eyes with a beautiful historical world.
The Badami museum is falling under the ASI Dharwad circle. The sculptures are beautiful mythological characters. Many sculptures will explain about the Bhagavdgitha .Few are on Maha puranas , Indian history and etc. The museum most importantly has different collections of inscriptions. Badami archeological museum gives you historical information of Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal, and other places. As a result of the initiative of ASI all the monuments, sculptures maintained very well.
Above all the four galleries have attractive Makara Torana (A type of toraṇa – ornamental canopy] carved nicely. For example, lord Shiva represented as Tripurantaka, Nataraja, Kalari, Bhairava, and Vishnu in Narasimha avatar, Lajja-Gauri, matrikas , Bhairavi, and others. Many panels depict Bhagavata or Krishnalila. However, the large-scale model of ‘Shidlaphadi’ prehistoric cave helps to understand the historic life and many paintings, stone implements are main of this museum.
ASI has kept many antiquities, sculptures, monuments, inscriptions and photos inside the museum. The museum established in the year 1982. Four galleries are there in the museum with one open air gallery. The scaled model of Shidlaphadi is inside the museum.

Photography at the Archaeological Museum Badami is not allowed. You can spend 30 minutes to one hour or more based on your interest.
Best time to visit the museum:
To conclude you can visit the museum any season. But it’s better to avoid the summer as the temperature is high. The best time is from October to February. When you go badami plan to visit this museum without miss.
